Academic Years 2019-2023

Julian Pavel

Julian Pavel completed his BSc and MSc in Economics and International Affairs, then received an MBA in International Strategic Management, and an Advanced Master in International Development from Radboud University Nijmegen. In the MA program for Conflict Research, Management and Resolution he is especially interested in the concept of new vs. old wars, hybrid warfare, terrorism, propaganda and their socio-political-psychological effects. He is writing his seminar papers on these concepts with Israel as a case study.

Anagha Menon has completed her MSC in Industrial Psychology at CMR University, Bangalore, India. In the MA Conflict Management program she is particularly interested in the scope of negotiation and mediation in resolving conflicts at all levels, specially international conflicts. She is also interested in the peace-building processes and the role of the United Nations in conflicts across the world. She plans to write her seminar paper on the integration and socio-cultural lives of Cochin Jewish immigrants in Israel. 


Mark Geskey completed his BA studies in International Studies at the University of South Florida and MA studies in National Security Studies at the American Military University. In the MA program for Conflict Research, Management, and Resolution he is especially interested in the study of past international conflicts and how their resolutions offer insight into solving current protracted conflicts. He is planning to write his seminar paper on the challenges veterans face upon reintegration into civilian society after combat service.

 

 

Kate Yeager completed her B.A. in History with Honors in International Security from Stanford University. In the MA Program for Conflict Research, Management and Resolution, Kate is particularly interested in the ways in which emerging and disruptive technologies affect peace efforts in Israel and Palestine. She is planning a seminar paper on the effects of fake news on Palestinian protest communication. 

 

 

Rafi Barkan Bocarsly completed his BA in English Literature with a Minor in Psychology from the UMass Amherst Commonwealth Honors College. In the MA program for Conflict Research, Management and Resolution he is especially interested in gender and how it impacts conflict. He is currently working on a thesis that looks at connections performances of Israeli masculinity in the IDF and Palestinian masculinity.

 

 

 


McKenna Swindle completed her BS studies in Sociology and International Development at Brigham Young University, Utah, USA. In the MA program for Conflict Research, Management and Resolution she is especially interested in the experiences of minority groups in political and protracted conflicts. She is planning to write her seminar paper on the role of service in the Israel Defense Forces in reinforcing psychological conflict narratives for Israeli young adults.

 

 

Aliza Gold completed her BA with a major in German Studies, minor in Hebrew and Israel Studies, and a certification in Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Colorado in Boulder. Now, she is in the MA program for Conflict Research, Management and Resolution and the program for specialization in Gender Studies. She is particularly interested in the aspects of social and identity-based conflicts and in the processes of conflict transformation such as dialogue. Aliza is currently in the process of research for her thesis on the experiences, feelings, and dilemmas in the daily lives of Palestinian civilians of the Old City of Jerusalem under Israeli security and surveillance.

 

 

Shaina

Shaina Silberstein completed her B.Ed. in English as a Second Language at Achva Academic College in Southern Israel. In the MA program for Conflict Research, Management, and Resolution she is especially interested in research and mediation of personal and social conflicts. She is planning to write her seminar paper on the acculturation experience of single immigrants from North America into Israeli society.

 

 

ISAAC

Isaac Benaia completed his BS in Aeronautical Engineering at Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo Leon, Monterrey, México. In the MA program for Conflict Research, Management and Resolution he is especially interested in research and mediation of social conflicts in México. He is planning to write his seminar paper on the experience of Central American immigrants that pass by México along their journey towards the U.S.

 

 

Marcelo

Marcelo Furtado completed his BS studies in Economics at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, and his BA in International Relations at Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Minas Gerais, both in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. In the MA program for Conflict Research, Management and Resolution he is especially interested in the cultural aspects of conflicts and its relevance for solution. He is planning a seminar paper on the culture of conflict evolved from the already protracted struggle involving organized crime and law enforcement in Brazil.

 

 

Jane Lee

Jane Lee completed her BA studies in International Studies at Sabanci University, in Istanbul, Turkey. In the MA program for Conflict Research, Management and Resolution she is especially interested in political and social polarization and the role of International law in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. She is planning to write her seminar paper on affective polarization in South Korea.

 

 

Dominik Winkler

Dominik Winkler completed his BA studies in geography and social sciences at the Humboldt-University of Berlin, Germany. In the MA program for Conflict Research, Management and Resolution he is especially interested in the relations of local civil society and international politics, as well as in post-colonial perspectives on the interaction of peacebuilding and political economy. Through his experiences as a social worker in Berlin, as well as Jordan, he is interested in connecting the academic and practical level.

The topic of his seminar paper is the (re-)production of specific framings of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through non-state actors, from the perspective of Cultural Political Economy.

 

 

Scarlett

Scarlett De Jean completed her BS studies in Film and Television at Boston University of Boston, Massachusetts, USA. In the MA program for Conflict Research, Management and Resolution she is especially interested in the the study of past international conflicts and how their resolutions have affected the present state of international relations in the USA. She is planning to write her seminar paper on the relationship that Jews who made Aliyah but are not religious, nor Zionistic have with the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict while living in Israel.
